The Sindh Electricity Minister has called for the construction of mini solar grid stations in remote villages to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the rural population of the province.
He chaired a meeting to review the progress of a project to provide solar power to cities in the province. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Sindh Energy, the Project Director of Surya Sindh, Department of Energy officials and solar companies.

A letter of intent has also been issued for the project.
Work on the project feasibility report is progressing quickly and the project is expected to start generating electricity within two years, said the Go Company working on the project, said the Sindh Electricity Minister. 400 million US dollars is estimated to be invested in the project.
The statement from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources was delivered during a conversation with representatives of electricity companies.
He said that this is a unique project of Pakistan's floating solar power plant which will not only provide 500 MW of green energy but also create jobs in the province.
Lake Kinchar will promote tourism and help control cargo loss, he added.
Imtiaz Shaikh said that the 500 MW green energy project is another milestone in the achievements of the Sindh government.
In recent months, Pakistan has seen efforts to increase the installation and use of solar panels. The government has come up with a comprehensive solar energy package that includes tax breaks and soft loans for consumers to cope with the prolonged power outages that have crippled life in the country.
The solar power package will include a short-term plan to convert government offices to solar power. This includes developing a plan to help small consumers become solar with grants or concessional loans.
The government also plans to waive the general sales tax on all components used to produce solar energy.
The meeting chaired by the Energy Working Group discussed the solar project.
